About Tansu

These days, social networking pages and blogs replace static homepages. You can find me in these places these days: Facebook, Linked-in, and sometimes in Orkut. I also have a personal blog that is more or less active.

I am a 32 year research scientist and have been happily married to my wife Ozlem, who is also Turkish, since the beginning of this millennium. She has received her MS degree from cell and structural biology department at UIUC. Thus, being an academic family and putting a higher value on knowledge than money, we lived a modest but happy life in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA for six years. I have realized how addictive such small towns could be only after moving to Berlin, Germany in 2006. On the other hand, I must say that Berlin is a very international and fun city.

My son Alper was born on 3rd August 2006, an event which changed everything. In a few moments, he has become simply the happiest and most important aspect of my life. Being a father also puts many things into perspective. It is funny how all the cliches about maturity and family are true and how poor words are in conveying such deep meanings.

I am a curious person and with time I have realized that learning (sciences) and technology are my only true hobbies. These days I am trying painting but we will see how long that will last. I enjoy many things and I can talk about my favorite activities, bands, books, authors, etc. But no need to waste time with such yada yada unless we do it interactively.

To conclude, I live a quite and modest life filled with science at work and happiness at home. Adding the occasional travels to break the monotonicity and see new places, I must say that I am a lucky person!
